This Privacy Policy explains how Verigoose (the "Service") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our business phone verification directory. The Service lets you search for a business by name and view contact numbers on file, with an indicator showing whether a listing has been verified. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We keep data collection to what the Service needs to work:
- Business listing information. The directory stores information about businesses — name, category, area, address, phone number(s), and verification status (including when a number was last confirmed). This information is published so people can reach those businesses; it is not personal data about you as a visitor.
- Search queries. When you search or use autosuggest, your query is sent to our server to return matching listings. We use it to perform the search and to understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used.
- Reports ("honks"). If you report that a listing looks wrong, we record which listing was reported and any reason you provide, so we can review and correct the data.
- Technical data. Like most websites, our servers may log standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
- Preferences stored on your device. Your appearance setting (light or dark theme) is saved in your browser's local storage on your device. It is not transmitted to us.
The Service does not currently offer user accounts, and we do not ask you to create one to search the directory.
2. How we use information
- To operate the search and autosuggest features and return results.
- To display listings and their verification status.
- To review reports and keep listing information accurate and up to date.
- To maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the Service.
- To understand overall usage so we can improve the Service.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies and local storage
The Service uses your browser's local storage to remember your theme preference. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. Any cookies strictly necessary for the Service to function are limited to that purpose.
4. How information is shared
We share information only in limited circumstances:
- Publicly, by design. Business listing information is shown to anyone who uses the directory — that is the purpose of the Service.
- Service providers. We use third parties to host and operate the Service, including database hosting and cloud storage for backups (for example, Google Drive). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security obligations.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Verigoose, our users, or the public.
5. Data retention and backups
We retain listing and report data for as long as needed to operate the directory. We take regular encrypted-in-transit snapshots of our database and store them in cloud storage (Google Drive) as backups, on a rolling retention schedule, so we can recover from data loss. Backups are pruned automatically over time.
6. Business owners: corrections and removal
If you are a business owner and want a listing corrected or removed, contact us at the address below. We will review the request and update or remove the listing where appropriate.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International users
The Service may be operated from, and information may be processed in, countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an appropriate level of protection.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information — such as the right to access, correct, or delete it, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
